Great Lakes Maritime Academy - I go to cal maritime, (texas uses our training ship in the summer and sometimes with us,) and their maritime academy is way more of a military school than ours or great. When i was making my decision, the sticker price for maine was almost 3 times higher than for great lakes. The old kp grads were certainly the worst i have ever sailed with. Great lakes = lower cost, no regimental bs to distract from classes, and the same license. It’s by far the smallest academy, so you don’t meet many grads in the industry outside of the great lakes but they do exist. I would recommend applying as an ordinary seaman or os.
